Nanaimo Recycling Ltd (NWPR) operates a facility in Nanaimo, British Columbia, which receive, temporarily store and transfer wood residue for subsequent conversion to energy as part of a contract between NWPR and the Gold River Power Project, a regional biomass power producer.
NWPR accepts the following types of wood residue:
- source separated demolition residue consisting primarily of construction debris from demolitions and construction sites;
- land clearing residues for urban development;
- sawmill and planer residues generated during the manufacture of lumber;
- construction residues in the form of packing crates, pallets and dunnage from industrial suppliers;
- wood residues from the manufacture of pallets, trusses, etc.;
- used or broken pallets and non-chemically treated wood residue from new construction.
NWPR operates in accordance with all Federal and Provincial laws and is in compliance with Bylaw Number 1386, Article 4, Facility Operating Requirements and Article 9, Operating Plans for the Nanaimo Regional District.
